COMRADE  TERRY  BLOOM

 

 

            Terry was born at the town of Haliburton, Ontario in 1936.  He received his education at Orillia, Ont.  He started his military career as a gunner on the 25lb. Howitzers, as a reservist from 1953 – 1954.

 

            He enlisted in the RCAF at St. Clair Avenue, Toronto on the 7th February 1955 and was off to St. Jean,  P.Q. for basic training where he was selected as a Munitions and Weapons technician and was off to Camp Borden for and M & W course 5507.

 

On completion of the M & W course transferred to North Bay where he worked on CF100 Interceptors (Clunks) until January 1957.  He was then transferred to the OUT (Operational Training Unit) at Cold Lake to work on “Clunks” until 1959.  In 1959 he moved over to the CEPE AIR ARM’T EVALUATION DIVISION where he was employed on CF100’s, Sabres, T-33’s Argus, CF104’ and ranges.

 

            Finally after eight years in the Cool Pool he was off to RCAF Stn. Downsview where he worked on T33’s, Dakotas, Otters, Ranges, Air Cadets and Explosives Areas from 1965 - 1967.

 

            Then came integration and he was employed with REME working on 105 Howitzers, machine guns, bicycles and safes.  He had lots of TC inspecting Militia Units all over Ontario. At this time he became an EOD (Explosives Disposal) operation and was part of the EOD team.

 

1973 – 1978, he was stationed at CFB Greenwood working on the Argus, ranges EOD and spent the summer of 1976 with EOD teams at Ottawa.  Here he was promoted to M/Cpl in March 1974 and Sgt. In January 1977.

 

1978 – 1982 he was sent to 4 Wing Baden and worked on CF104’s, load crew training, cross “B” training and EOD. Promoted to WO Feb, 1981.

 

            Back to Greenwood from ’82 to ’85, and employed on the Aurora and was WOYc Explosives Area, Ranges and EOD.  Promoted to MWO April ‘85

 

            He finished his military career in Ottawa from ’85 – ’88 as life cycle manager for Sparrow Missiles, launchers and test equipment.

 

            He and his lovely wife Madeline returned to the Valley to retire.
