COMRADE ROBERT BRANNEN

Tpr Robert Brannen joined the military in 1941.  In April of 1943 Robert was sent to England with the 23rd Armoured Regiment and would later be assigned to the Canadian Grenadier Guards (22nd Armoured Regiment) who were then stationed in Worthington, England.  In 1944, still with this Regiment, Comrade Brannen was sent to Normandy and continued with the allied advance across France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany.  After the war, Robert was honourably discharged and started his family with his wife Hilary of Clyde River, N.S.  In 1951, Comrade Brannen rejoined the military and later participated in the Korean War, and eventually retired from the military in 1963.  At the young age of 84, Robert is retired and living with his second wife, Ada, in Clyde River, N.S.  He has 4 children, 13 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.   Branch 98 is proud to have Comrade Brannen as Veteran of the Month for August, 2004.
