Comrade Pearlie Whynot was born and raised
in New Germany,N.S. and worked on his father’s farm until the outbreak of the
second world war. Pearlie joined the West Novies and took his training in Yarmouth and Debert. He
was then shipped of to Scotland
and England
for more training. His first encounter with the enemy was in North Africa and Sicily. Next he went to Italy,where he marveled at the “Cistine
Chapel”After fighting in the front line,he was assigned to Stretcher Bearer duties
and driver in France, Belgium, Holland
and Germany.
On return from Europe he settled in Hamilton ,Ont. And worked for 30 yrs. With
the Salvation Army. His last move was back to Nova Scotia in 1993 and has become a member
of Legion Br.98. Branch 98 is proud to present Comrade Whynot as “VETERAN OF
THE MONTH” for April /2010
