Comrade Monk enlisted in the Engineers (RCE) 1948 and completed basic training in Chilliwack, B.C. After receiving his jump wings with the Airborne, Comrade Monk served in Ottawa from 1952 to 1956. Comrade Monk left the service for a short period of time and once again joined the R.C.A.F. as an A/C Electrician in 1957. He served at various bases throughout Canada including tours in France and Germany. While stationed at Greenwood, Comrade Monk would retire from the service completing 26 yrs. of combined service. Harold and his lovely wife Esther raised two daughters and one son. With over 42 yrs. dedicated to the Royal Canadian Legion, Kingston Legion Br.98 is proud to present Comrade Monk as “VETERAN OF THE MONTH” Feb. 2008.
