MORSE (Berry), Helen Mae

— 87, of Kingston. It is with deep sadness that the family wishes to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital in Middleton on Sunday, February 7, 2010. Born in North Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Annie (Messenger) Berry. A lifetime resident of Kingston area, Helen married Chet Morse, the love of her life. When he returned from overseas service, they built their home and raised their family in the home where she resided to the present. Helen was involved in many aspects of service life and support for others ~ the United Church, UCW, Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Seniors groups, as well as knitting mittens, scarves and slippers for school children in the area. Her detailed handiwork has been appreciated by many family, friends and organizations. Helen was Charter Member and first President of the Ladies Auxiliary Branch 98 Royal Canadian Legion Kingston in 1959. She held many offices and served on numerous committees including the Apple Blossom Award Committee, Treasurer, Bylaws, Membership, Nominations and especially Sick and Visiting. As a Charter Member and a Life Member, she continued to be active throughout the fifty years and was involved up until the present. She received the Meritorious Service Award in 1990, the highest award given in the Ladies Auxiliary. Helen was honored with the 50th, 60th and 75th Anniversary Medal of the Legion. She was also the proud recipient of the 50 year membership pin and medal from the Ladies Auxiliary in 2009. She cherished her family, guiding, encouraging and celebrating the accomplishments of her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Chet, 24 years ago. She is survived by brother, Claude Berry, Melvern Square; sisters, Dorothy Sampson and Georgie Aldred, both of Kingston; sons, Bruce (Heather) Morse, Berwick; Barry(Valda) Morse, Auburn; daughters, Sheila Scammell (Richard Woodland), Upper Clements; Donna (Allan) Bell, Victoria, B.C.; grandchildren, Kevin (Stephanie) Scammell; Peter (Denise) Scammell, Aaron- David Morse, Stephanie Morse, Peter Bell; great-grandchildren, Dylan; Bailey, Chet, Bria, Julia and Sarah Scammell and many nieces, nephews, relatives and long-time friends. Cremation is being arranged under the direction of Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St.,               (902) 825-3448         (902) 825-3448 where visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. , Wednesday, February 10. A memorial service with Legion Auxiliary participation will be held in Kingston United Church 2 p.m., Thursday, February 11, Rev. Michael Mugford officiating, followed by a reception in the church hall. Private interment will be held in Kingston United Cemetery. Helen's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical and nursing staff of Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Medical Unit who gave such outstanding care to our mother and the family. Helen would appreciate that donations in memory of her be made to Kingston United Church. Thanks to Rev. Michael Mugford of Kingston United Church for his support, compassion and comfort during this difficult and sad time.
