COMRADE JEAN MARTEL

MARTEL, Jean (John) Andre, 71, of Kingston , passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, January 8, 2009 with his loving family by his side. Born in Quebec City , Quebec he was the son of the late Roland and Rita (Blouin) Martel. Jean served with the Canadian Armed Forces for 21 years, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for 12 years, worked at Acadia University as a U-Hall driver for 5 years and served with the Corps Commissionaire before retiring. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kingston Branch #098 where, for a period, served as Sgt@Arms. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, horseshoes, pool, darts and fishing. He is survived by his wife the former Mary Alice West, Lake Paul; daughters Deborah (Denis) Vermette, Lake Paul; Brenda (Daton) Johnson, Shubenacadie; Ingrid Martel, Toronto; grandchildren, Lynn, Tammy, Brett, Sarah, Nicholas and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Shelby, Kolton, Braylene, Damien and Josie; sister, Celine Martel-Huard (Jean), Quebec City, Que. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter Lisa, grandsons Paul and Joshua. By Jean’s request, cremation has taken place. A legion tribute will be held 2pm Monday, January

12, 2009 in the Royal Canadian Legion, Kingston Branch #098. Private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the North Kingston Cemetery . Family flowers only.
