COMRADE JACK ARTHUR RUSSELL MATTHEWS
MATTHEWS, Jack Arthur Russell - 86, Greenwood,
passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital,
Middleton. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Edgar Cyril and Elsie
(Russell) Matthews. Jack served with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Europe
in the Second World War with 417 Squadron. He continued his peace time
service as an Armour. Jack was also one of the first bus drivers with
Acadian Lines in Nova Scotia. He was a member of the Kingston Branch No. 98
Royal Canadian Legion and No. 107 Valley Wing RCAFA. Jack's love of sports
included golfing, scuba diving and swimming. He is survived by his wife of
62 years, the former Catherine McDermid; daughter, Marilyn (Chet) Coleman,
Nictaux; sons, Merle (Cathie), Sackville; Carl (Angela), Kentville; sister,
Rosemary (Keith) Baas, Truro; brothers, Don (Marilyn) Matthews, Winslow,
P.E.I.; David Adams, Ontario; grandchildren, Jason, Russell, Ryan, Randy,
Amy, Stephanie, Justin, and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Larissa and
Madison. He was predeceased by son, Darrell; daughter, Gail Lorraine;
sisters, Grace Adams, Edith McCarthy, Margaret Crowell; brothers, Phillip
Adams, Russell Adams, and Ronald Adams. Cremation has taken place. A Royal
Canadian Legion Tribute will be held at 7 p.m. today in Middleton Funeral
Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448, conducted by Kingston Branch No. 98. A
graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, August 10, in Robie Street
Cemetery, Truro, Rev. Don MacQueen officiating. By request, family flowers
