COMRADE BERNIE DOBBIN
DOBBIN,
Bernard Joseph "Bernie" - 67, Auburn, formerly of Scarborough, Ont.,
died Saturday, October 27, 2007, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born
in Corner Brook, N.L., he was a son of the late Arthur and Winnifred (Young)
Dobbin (Corner Brook, N.L.). He served in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment
Militia for three years. He was a 12 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion,
Branch 098 Kingston where he served as Poppy Chairman, first, second and third
vice-president and Call to Remembrance Chairman. He had a passion for the
Royal Canadian Legion and was extremely dedicated to our War Veterans. Bernie
was a certified boat-builder, heavy equipment mechanic and union
representative. He retired from the City of North York, Ont., in 1995 after 11
years of employment with them. He was very social and his hobby was deer,
moose and caribou hunting. He is survived by his wife, the former Diane Barrey,
Auburn; daughters, Denise Quigley (Ben Thorne), Edmonton, Alta; Ida (Ken)
Courtney, Francois, N.L.; Susan (Gary) Wilson, Edmonton, A.B.; Ellen (Curt)
Abbot, Fredericton, N.B.; Laura Jackson, Scarborough, Ont.; stepson, Kevin
Sullivan, Chippawa, Ont.; sisters, Gertrude Beevor (Diane Burton), Middleton;
Selena (John) Gillis, Barrie, Ont.; Marion (John) Burton, Bradford, Ont.; Rose
Marie (Fred) Rideout, Ottawa, Ont.; brothers, William (Linda), Nictaux; Gerald
(Susan), Oshawa, Ont.; Frank, Nictaux; many grandchildren;
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother,
Winnifred and father, Arthur. Cremation has taken place. Royal Canadian Legion
Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, in the Royal Canadian
Legion, Branch 098 Kingston, Legion Chaplain Rick Tibbel officiating, with a
reception to follow. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may
