         Branch 98
         President
   Duties

1.   The Branch President is the Chief Executive Officer of the Branch and when present, he/she will preside at all Executive and General Meetings of the Branch.

2.  As President, he/she portrays the Legion image in his/her local community.

3.  The President should participate in community projects and represent the Branch at Public functions.  His/her appearance and conduct must, at all times, be above reproach, as most people judge the Branch by its President.

4.  As Presiding Officer, the President sets and example of fairness, courtesy and obedience to the rules.

5.  He/she should be familiar with all Branch and Legion manuals, as they are the guide to operating a good Legion.

6.  The President should learn to delegate authority and see that the work is done.

7.  The President should take guidance from his/her executive.  He/she must consult with, take advice from them, and confide in them.

8.  The President should keep the membership informed at all times on all matters.

9.  The President should ensure that the Branch participates in Zone meetings.

10.  The President calls the Meeting to order promptly at the proper time, announces the business, states and puts all questions brought up before the Meeting.  He/she informs the Members on points of order, preserves order and controls debates, but must not take part in the debate himself/herself.  He/she should be familiar with the manual "Rules of Procedure for Legion Meetings" so the meeting can be conducted in a proper and businesslike manner.

11.  If, for any reason, the President wishes to take part in the debate, he/she must vacate the Chair temporarily to some other Officer, usually the next Senior Officer present.  He/she will not resume the Chair until the question at issue has been disposed of.

12.  The function of the Presiding Officer is to conduct and guide the debate but not to dominate it.  He/she exercises authority to terminate aimless discussion.  At all times, his/her ruling should be given with firmness and confidence.
